MASSACHUSETTS ADU CHALLENGE – SUBMISSIONS DUE FEBRUARY 27, 2026

Submissions are officially open for the Massachusetts ADU Design Challenge announced by Gov. Healy on December 15, 2025.  The challenge is part of a larger initiative designed to address the shortage of affordable housing in the Commonwealth. The ADU Design Challenge invites Massachusetts architects, builders, designers, contractors, and design-build teams practicing in the State of Massachusetts to help solve that problem by creating high-quality, ready-to-use ADU plans. This initiative is about reducing the cost and complexity of building small homes — and showing how good design can make housing more accessible, sustainable, and achievable across the Commonwealth.

This challenge is supported by AIA Massachusetts, MHP (Massachusetts Housing Partnership), Eastern Bank Foundation and The Boston Foundation, with roughly $75,000 in sponsor commitments for prizes and outreach — no state dollars used for prizes.

Submissions are open now and due on February 27, 2026.   Visit here for complete information.
