DESCRIPTION:Register Now – registration closes October 4th —two select keynote sessions are opened to WMAIA members!\n2023 AIA/ACSA Intersections Research Conference: Material Economies\nOctober 19-21\, 2023\n \nUMass/Amherst is hosting this year’s AIA/ACSA’s (Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture) Intersections Research Conference: Material Economies\nOctober 19-21. WMAIA is pleased to be supporting this event. \nThe conference brings together researchers\, architects\, policy makers\, and more from practice and academia to share innovations in material science\, high-performance design\, healthy materials and circular building. The conference will take place on the campus of University of Massachusetts Amherst and feature keynote speakers Mae-ling Lokko\, assistant professor of architecture at Yale University’s Center for Ecosystems + Architecture and Chandra Robinson\, AIA\, principal at LEVER Architects. \nThis is a great opportunity for WMAIA members!\nWMAIA members register here for one or both of the keynotes.\n\nKeynote: Mae-ling Lokko (Yale University) & Reception\nThursday October 19th  5 PM| in person Olver Design Building UMass|1 LU\nThe Conference opening keynote is Mae-ling Lokko\, an Assistant Professor at Yale University’s School of Architecture and Yale’s Center for Ecosystems in Architecture (Yale CEA). She is an architectural scientist\, designer and educator from Ghana and the Philippines whose work focuses on the upcycling of agrowaste and biopolymer materials.  Her research integrates a broad range of technical\, environmental\, social and cultural criteria to evolve contemporary material-value systems and accelerate business models for upcycling between the Global North and South. Lokko is the founder of Willow Technologies\, Ltd. focused on the research\, design and development of biobased building materials. \nKeynote: Chandra D. Robinson (LEVER Architecture) & Dinner\nFriday October 20th  6:30 PM| in person Campus Center Hotel 11th Floor UMass|1 LU\nChandra is a Principal at LEVER Architecture\, a practice recognized for design excellence and innovative work with mass timber construction. Based in Portland\, Oregon and Los Angeles\, the 38-person firm collaborates with communities and institutions to design buildings that elevate human experience and foreground equity. Chandra recently completed a LEED Platinum campus for equity-based foundation Meyer Memorial Trust and is currently working on several civic and educational projects including the Portland Museum of Art (Portland\, Maine)\, Portland State University’s new School of Art and Design\, and two libraries for Multnomah County Library\, among others. \nWMAIA members register here for one or both of the keynotes.
