Architecture thru Film SERIES: SPRING 2010

The spring film series features three films, which focus on three prominent architects and their work as portrayed through these documentaries. 

The series will be moderated by Erica Rioux Gees, AIA.   Each film will be presented by a guest speaker.

Screenings will take place at Pruyne Lecture Hall/Fayerweather Hall on the Amherst College Campus at 6:30. 

 

All films are free and open to the public.

 

The series is sponsored by the Western Massachusetts Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the Five College Architectural Studies Program.

Making the Modern

A documentary exploring collaborative effort behind design and construction of the Fort Worth Modern Art Museum. designed by the Japanese architect Tadao Ando.  Massive planar walls of architectural concrete boldly express the Modern's basic structure while protecting the collection within. Forty-foot-high transparent walls of glass framed in metal surround the concrete envelope, providing magnificent public circulation areas from which to view the surrounding building, the large reflecting pond, outdoor sculpture, and the landscaped grounds.

Spaces: The Architecture of Paul Rudolph

Paul Rudolph, 1918-1997, American  architect and the dean of the Yale School of Architecture for six years, known for his cubist building designs and highly complex floor plans. His most famous work is the Yale Art and Architecture Building (A&A Building), a spatially complex Brutalist concrete structure.
