Holyoke Community College is Seeking Proposals for Presentations for Working Green—A Training Conference for Green-Related Occupations
to be held on August 25, 2010
Holyoke Community College, Holyoke MA
HCC, in cooperation with the Center for Ecological Technology (CET), will be holding a professional development conference for professionals in Real Estate, Lending, Construction/Remodeling, and Facilities Management to provide training in the benefits of sustainable/renewable products and methods and energy efficiency activities to increase sales, positively impact the environment, and lower costs.
This conference is different from all other green conferences, in that it is geared to professionals in the above sectors to provide specific information on how “green” knowledge, business strategies and sustainable practices can be implemented in those sectors, rather than providing the typical conference information on a variety of generalized green-related topics.
We are seeking proposals for keynote and workshop presentations from talented, knowledgeable professionals from these sectors who are interested in sharing their knowledge to the benefit of the conference attendees.
The Request for Presentations can be found here.
Please take time to read the Request, which details the topics to be covered at the conference, and complete the RFP and return it to us at your earliest convenience (no later than June 25, 2010).

MODERNIST ARCHITECTURE COMES OF AGE: PRESERVATION MEETS SUSTAINABILITY
June 25, 2010
University of Vermont
Music Building
AIA/CES approved for 6.5 HSW/SD Learning Units
AICP CM: We have applied for 6 CM credits; check website for updates.
This is a day-long symposium exploring the preservation of historic modernist buildings and how to rehabilitate them to be sustainable and functional in the 21st century.
Today planners, architects and regulators are faced with large numbers of structures built in the 1950's, '60's and '70's in prime locations and within institutional settings. These buildings are now over or approaching the fifty year benchmark, with its associated historic status. However unlike previous generations of historic resources, these buildings were often built with new, relatively untested methods and materials and with the assumption of cheap, limitless energy.
This symposium will provide information about the architecture of this era, particularly in Vermont and New England, the materials commonly used and issues associated with the aging buildings. We will explore strategies for rehabilitation that preserve architectural integrity as well as promote energy efficiency and sustainability.
Featuring nationally renowned experts in the fields of historic preservation, modernist architecture, and sustainability. Including:
Christine Madrid French, National Trust for Historic Preservation
Professor Glenn Andres, Middlebury College
Barbara Campagna, National Trust for Historic Preservation
Mike Jackson, Illinois Historic Preservation Agency
James Jacobs, National Park Service
David Fixler, Einhorn Yaffee Prescott
Theodore Prudon, Prudon & Partners, and the author of "Preservation of Modern Architecture"
